![]() The whole thing was so beautifully put together that it wasn’t until we left that we realized what wasn’t there and how much that meant. As Kyle put it, “It’s an art gallery/toy store rather than a toy store/art gallery.” Which is absolutely correct. The walls were lined with paintings or display cases filled with custom and original figures. The best part, according to her, was no longer having to decide what gets displayed and what doesn’t now that there’s room for all of it. Alexandra, the gallery director, told us that they had moved only a few months ago from a much smaller basement location down the street. The space was large, airy and extremely well curated. Art Whino was located in the heart of an extremely touristy neighborhood and huge. ![]() All our local NYC shops ( MyPlasticHeart, Scumbags and Superstars, Toy Tokyo, and the now defunct Kid Robot) are located slightly off the beaten path, not in seedy areas but certainly not in Times Square and they tend to be on the smaller side. We were surprised by both the size and the location of the space. We were planning on going to Art Whino anyway because it’s right up our alley – but the plan was cemented when Shane Pomajambo, Editor in Chief, bought a piece from Kyle a couple of months ago. Exhibitions cover the whole spectrum of new art forms ranging from emerging stencil and wheat pasting artists to showcasing the most skilled leaders of the low brow movement.
